(WMC-TV) - Heavy rain caused a roof to collapse at a local business Thursday. Bargain Hunt's collapsed roof closed the entire shopping center at Summer Avenue and White Station Road.

"We were inside working, the next thing we know somebody from next door came in said the roof had collapsed on the building next door," said Northern Tool assistant manager Jim Mullis. "A few minutes later the fire department told us we needed to get out for safety reasons gas leak things like that could happen."

Northern Tool and City Thrift had to close for the day.

Firefighters were on hand at Bargain Hunt where the roof collapsed. One employee said it was in a corner. He said customers were inside but not near the section that collapsed. The collapse allowed a lot of water to get inside Bargain Hunt.

The closing of Northern Tool caused problems for some truck drivers who had planned to stop on a tight schedule.

Northern Tool plans to reopen Friday at 8 a.m. An employee from Bargain Hunt said it could be as long as a week before it re-opens.
