The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that the team has signed defenseman Scooter Vaughan. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Vaughan, 24, skated in 50 games with the Stingrays last season adding six goals and 14 assists for 20 points and registered 75 penalty minutes. In four Kelly Cup Playoff contests, the Placentia, California, native buried one goal. As a rookie in 2011-12, Vaughan appeared in 20 games with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL totaling six points (one goal, five assists). Entering his second full campaign, the 6-foot, 195-pound defenseman attended training camp with the Nailers last season before being released and joining the Stingrays.
"I'm pumped to be back," said Vaughan. "It's nice to have a team, an organization and coaching staff that wanted me to come back and have me for another year. I'm very excited to be back where I am loved." Click here to listen to the full interview.
Prior to turning pro, Vaughan attended the University of Michigan for four seasons recording 39 points (16 goals, 23 assists) in 137 contests and helped the Wolverines capture CCHA Championships in 2008 and 2010. In 2007-08, Vaughan skated alongside current Stingrays defenseman and team captain Kevin Quick.
