Southwest flight from Nashville lands after mechanical problem

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - A Southwest Airlines flight that departed from Nashville International Airport landed after an issue with its landing gear Monday evening at New York LaGuardia. Ten people were injured when the landing gear collapsed.

Flight 345 touched down about 6 p.m. ET after its front landing gear apparently did not properly deploy. Six people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Others were treated at the scene. There were about 50 people on board the flight.

The plane departed Nashville about 2 p.m.

A spokesperson for the Port Authority of New York, which manages the airport, said the Boeing 737 aircraft "had a nose gear issue upon landing on runway 4 at LaGuardia."

Passengers are still on board the plane as the airport fire department sprays foam outside the plane due to a chemical leak.

Officials have not said what the chemical might be.

All runways at LaGuardia International Airport were closed immediately after the landing, but have since been reopened.
