Teen attacked twice: 'I'm getting jumped over something I haven't done'

(WMC-TV) - A Southaven teenager said he was attacked twice. Both of the alleged attacks happened in places where he should have felt safe: a performing arts center and his own home. Austin Grills, 15, says the motive is all a big misunderstanding.

Southaven police are investigating at least two incidents in which Grills says he was attacked.

The first time happened at the Southaven Performing Arts Center. Grills says he was playing basketball and he was accused of knowing who stole bicycles from other players.

"I think its stupid. I'm getting jumped over something I haven't done," he said.

Police say paramedics treated Grills. But Grills' father and neighbors say the group of teens came to the teen's house next.

"I noticed two on the street, they had bats," said Stacey Weatherby, who lives nearby. "I walked to the end of the street and here comes a bunch of them with a machete and there's one of them had bats."

Neighbors say they were able to disarm the teens.

Grills' stepbrother showed Action News 5's Janice Broach two bats, a very heavy homemade knife, and one of the bikes.

The Grills' thinks a neighbor took the bikes, one of which showed up at their house. They want police to return it to the owner.

Southaven police arrested one teen Sunday night and charged him with simple assault. They say they are still investigating the case.
