Firefighter injured battling west Nashville blaze

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A firefighter had to be transported to the hospital Tuesday morning after fighting a blaze in west Nashville.

The fire occurred at about 5 a.m. at a vacant home at 733 Newberry Rd. in West Meade.

The firefighter was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center with heat-related symptoms and later released.

Officials said the fire started in the back part of the house, which was heavily damaged. The house was empty except for some furniture.

The fire is under investigation and is being treated as suspicious.
