AR man accused of shooting friend after smoking marijuana

(WMC-TV) - One Arkansas man is facing charges for accidentally shooting his friend after smoking marijuana.

According to police, 19-year-old Brandon Murry was showing his friend where the safety is on a handgun when it went off. 19-year-old Marcus Warren was found dead upon arriving to the hospital.

"We don't believe it was intentionally done; but, (it was) reckless (never) the less," stated Lieutenant Mike Smith.

Days after the incident, Warren's father is grieving; but, standing up for young man who accidentally shot and killed him. When asked why he would stand up for his son's friend? His feelings were loud and clear.

"If my son was here, he would want me to. That was his best friend," explained father Larry Warren.

Warren spoke out about how he feels officers handled the situation.

"My baby was over here dying. When they could have been rushing (him) down there. I'm over at this house, a few moments after this happened, you got people just walking through the house ... and asking about where's drugs? What about my baby in there?" stated Warren.

Police also found 106 grams of marijuana in a baby's room and a sawed off shotgun in the baby's bed. The child was at the apartment at the time of the shooting and was handed to a relative. Warren stated the drugs were not his son's; they belonged to two other friends of his son's.

The friends, 20-year-old Morgan Cook and 18-year-old Dominique Davis, were also there during the incident. Both have been charged with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms and possession of a controlled substance.

Warren wishes for the public to remember his son how he was...and not how the incident makes him out to be.

"He wasn't a bad kid. Never had a felony. He had never been to jail (and just) finished his first year of college," declared Warren.
