Midtown neighborhood targeted by burglars

(WMC-TV) - People living in Midtown's historic Idlewild neighborhood are keeping a closer eye on their property and neighbors after burglars struck three times last week.

Two crimes happened on Vinton Avenue and one happened on Meda Street.

"Everybody sort of looks out for everybody else. Very close neighbors," said Brian Ellis.

"I don't feel unsafe, but I can definitely see people who do feel that way," added Jonathan Jacobs.

Memphis police report the first burglary took place Monday, July 22. The next two happened the following Wednesday and Thursday.

Police are increasing patrols around the neighborhood. Residents are thankful for the extra patrols, but are also making sure they protect their own homes and families.

"We are starting to take precautions. We are getting our alarm checked and making sure windows are secure," said Ellis. "Gates are locked. Of course we have our dogs."

He continued, "Hopefully they catch the guys. That's the main thing."

Along with increasing patrols, the Memphis Police Department asks that you report anything suspicious to (901) 528-CASH.
