(WMC-TV) - The new American Athletic Conference holding its inaugural media day in Newport, Rhode Island on Tuesday.
It's the first official gathering of all the schools, coaches and players for a league that's a combination of the old Big East, plus four schools from Conference USA, the Tigers former home.
Louisville is picked as favorite of the new league with an expected Top 10 ranking this year.
Tommy Tuberville and Cincinnati are second with Rutgers third.
The U of M comes in at bottom of the pack in tenth place coming off a four win season.
That's nothing but motivation according to Tigers linebacker Charles Harris:
"It does give you a chip on the shoulder knowing that no one respects our brand, no one respects Memphis football, but that's our job to change their minds, and if we don't change their minds, we'll at least make them respect us."
The Tigers open their season September 7th against Duke at the Liberty Bowl.
Their first AAC game is October 12th against UCF here in Memphis.
Louisville is the media pick to win the conference this year getting 28 of 30 first place votes.
Cincinnati is the only other team to get first place votes.
