(WMC-TV) - A graveyard in Whitehaven was carelessly damaged by maintenance crews, according to some reports.

As Racheal Booth takes care of the graves of her two daughters who died in a house fire in 1991, she says she cannot believe the conditions in the Forest Hill Cemetery on Holmes Road.

"It just broke my heart because I couldn't believe somebody so heartless can do this to all these babies," she said.

Booth visits their gravesides every weekend. She says she is often frustrated at the overgrown grass, broken vases, and broken toys.

"The man here said they couldn't do anything about it," said Booth.

Ronnie Robertson has the same complaint. He says some of his loved ones' headstones have even been damaged.

"They're not real careful with them ... You can see some of the writings gone off of this one where it's broken," he said.

Robertson says he has even brought his own equipment and worked on the lawn.

"I've actually came over myself and brought an 'edger' and [went] around the stones and things," said Robertson. "Just whatever I can do ... They're horrible around here."

Booth says she was told that independent contractors are in charge of the property.

Forest Hill Cemetery officials say they are taking this matter seriously.

They are reaching out to the independent contractors to possibly end this agreement before October so they can search for a more efficient company.
