GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -
Danny Frampton, 12, remains in the intensive care unit at Phoenix Children's Hospital. The soon-to-be 7th grader was flown in on Wednesday with critical injuries, after he was hit by a car in his neighborhood.
"It could've been worse, but he's alive," mother, Isis Frampton said. "He's a strong boy, I'll tell you."
Danny was riding his bicycle with friends at the corner of Mountainview Road and 45th Avenue in Glendale, when he was struck by a car. Police say the driver did not stop, and he still hasn't been located.
Danny's Aunt Edith Medina expressed her frustrations with that driver on Saturday.
"If he would've just stayed there, if he would've just checked, it would've changed the whole situation," Medina said.
Danny was about to enter the seventh grade, and his first football practice would have been Saturday. Instead of practicing with the team, Danny is recovering from a broken femur and painful scrapes and bruises.
"We've only been able to feed him yogurt," Frampton said. "The injuries have made it too painful for him to eat and swallow."
Doctors tell Danny's family it could be a year or two before he's able to play football again. Police are investigating this crime as a hit and run.
The impact left debris at the intersection, parts from the car fell onto the pavement. Glendale Police have determined those parts belong to a silver 2012 Buick LaCrosse.
With this new evidence in hand, police are trying to track down that vehicle. If you have any information, contact Glendale Police.
