36th annual biker roundup draws thousands to MS

(WMC-TV) - Thousands of bikers are rolling into Tunica, Mississippi this weekend for the 36th annual national bikers roundup.

However, already, drivers are being presented with some challenges. Four accidents have already been reported.

In one incident Friday night, four bikers were injured in an accident involving an SUV near the intersection of U.S. 61 and Mississippi 4. Three of the bikers have been airlifted to the MED and the fourth was taken by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital in DeSoto.

Three other incidents in Mississippi help remind drivers and bikers about the shared responsibility on the road.

One Mid-South biker explained why there have been so many accidents.

"They have a cage essentially helping them, protecting them. With us, all we have is two wheels and if you fall off...you fall off," explained biker Big Swole.

The Tunica County Sheriff's office is asking everyone to be careful...no matter what you drive. Their solution?

To assign extra patrol looking for those speeding. They hope the presence alone will help others focus more on being safe.

Saturday night is the last night for events here on the grounds of the Paul Battle Arena and Exposition Center in Tunica Law enforcement will be out in full force all night watching for speeders and drunk drivers.
