Mother escapes burning home with three children

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis mother escaped a burning home Wednesday morning, but not before saving her three children from the fire.

According to the Memphis Fire Department, Alicia Thompson, 35, rescued her children: Noah, 2; Carly, 4; and Zion, 13.

The family's home, located on the 700 block of Los Angeles Street, caught fire around 4 a.m.

"I heard an explosion in the house and I saw smoke that filled up the house, so I ran to the back," said Zion.

Zion's mother was able to break out a window, allowing her and her three children to climb out to safety.

"When our crews arrived on the scene there was heavy fire visible from the one story structure," said Lt. Wayne Cook, Memphis Fire Department.

Alicia Thompson was taken to The MED after cutting her hand on the window.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
