Officer indicted in crash that killed two faces court

(WMC-TV) - The former Memphis Police officer indicted for a car crash that killed a mother and daughter is facing a judge Wednesday.

Former officer Alex Beard has pled not guilty to two counts of vehicular homicide for the crash that killed 53-year-old Delores Epps and 13-year-old Mackala Ross nearly a year ago.

According to investigators, Beard was speeding at 94 miles per hour in a 50 mile per hour zone when he crashed into the family's vehicle.

In a statement, Beard said he was "responding to a call."

It has also been confirmed Beard was not following police procedures when his cruiser collided with another car at the intersection of E-H Crump Boulevard and Walnut Street last August

Beard was fired from the Memphis Police Department after an internal investigation in February.
