Flags will fly at half-staff for fallen Bartlett soldier

(WMC-TV) - Tennessee is remembering one of its own, fallen soldier Staff Sergeant Stephen New, on Friday.

Governor Bill Haslam has ordered all flags over the state capitol and all state office buildings to fly at half-staff from dawn Friday to sunset Saturday in honor of Staff Sergeant Stephen M. New.

The staff sergeant was killed July 28th during an attack on his unit in Kabul, Afghanistan.

For his bravery, New will posthumously receive the Tennessee Fallen Heroes Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Purple Heart.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Baptist Church on North Germantown Road in Bartlett. New's funeral is also at Faith Baptist at 2 p.m. Saturday.

New is survived by his parents and sister.
