(WMC-TV) - A Collierville girl is in the hospital after a seatbelt malfunction ejected her from a vehicle during a crash. It threw 12-year-old Jessica Pressler's life for a loop, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down.

Her family says it could have happened to anyone. They were on their way home from vacation when their tire blew out flipping their van off the road. But Jessica is not letting it get her down.

"She's just a happy go lucky," said friend Brandon Smith. "She was glad that she was the one that got injured as opposed to one of her siblings because she couldn't have [seen] them go through what she is going through."

The crash happened two weeks ago on a trip back to Collierville with her family.

Jessica was flown from North Platte, Nebraska to Denver, Colorado, and rushed into surgery.

This week, she started rehab at a hospital in Atlanta.

"If we unite in prayer, miracles happen," said Smith.

Smith and others friends are rallying the community to help Jessica and her family.

"It could happen to me or you. In an instant, it can happen to anybody, and it's more than what one family can undertake on their own," he said.

The community is raising money for medical costs, transportation, wheelchairs, making the family's home accessible, and for out-of-state hospital bills. All the while, they are cheering for Jessica, whose attitude is inspiring.

"We're hoping for a miracle," said Smith.

The Pressler family is expecting another child. Jessica's mother will be flying back in the next week to deliver the baby in Memphis, while family stays with her in Atlanta.
