Cordova resident fights church to get rid of termites, rodents

(WMC-TV) - One Cordova resident says she is ready to go up against the church next door to fight the pesky critters coming out of the woods behind her house.

Tameka Hunt moved to her Cordova home four months ago to enjoy the peace and quiet.

But now, she is questioning her decision.

"This beautiful community, and you don't know what to say or do," said Hunt.

She loves the view of the woods behind her house.

But since she moved in, she says she has been plagued with insects and rodents coming out of the woods.

And she is not the only one who feels that's a problem.

"I don't like the looks of it," said neighbor Jack Hill.

Jack Hill lives just across the street and thinks the woods are nothing but a nuisance.

"We see termites, possums, I see raccoons, I see sewer rats," said Hunt.

Hunt says the termites swarm around her at times, so much so she will not let her twins play outside in the backyard.

"It's extremely gross, not just gross, but nasty," she continues.

Just on the other side of these woods sits Advent Presbyterian Church.

Church officials tell Action News Five some of this wooded property belongs to them, and some is city property.

Hunt says she has talked to church about the termite and rodent infestation and what they plan to do about it.

"When you buy a home, which is one of your biggest investments, you don't think something like this will happen," said Hunt.

Advent Presbyterian's business administrator Randy Young says he is working with the city to determine property lines.

He says once that happens, the church is looking at clearing out some of these woods and eradicating the termites and rodents.

Church officials say they talked to Tameka Hunt last week and promised to try and begin working with her on these problems starting this week.
