18-year-old killed in Hickory Hill identified

(WMC-TV) - An 18-year-old man was shot and killed in Hickory Hill Tuesday afternoon.

Memphis Police Department and Memphis Fire Department were called to the 4000 block of Stony Point Drive around 1:30 p.m.

When they arrived, they found several shell casings on the ground and Katavius Boone with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Several people are in police custody but no charges have been filed in connection to the shooting.

Many people living in the neighborhood are sick and tired of this kind of crime.

"I just want to bust out in tears, just bust out in tears. Senseless murder, senseless murder," said Laquita Hughes.

Hughes says her cousin, 23-year-old Tracy McNeil, is one of the suspects being questioned by police.

"I just know the devil is at work, the devil is at work and Memphis is just going down," Hughes said.

Police say details of what happened "are sketchy".

But for at least one family, regardless of why the shooting happened, crimes like these have to stop.

"Oh Jesus, I just want to go over there and hug them. I just can't believe this has happened," said Hughes.
