Landlord in his mid-80s beaten, robbed in his own home

(WMC-TV) - A beloved member of the Arlington community was beaten and robbed in his own home. Investigators are now searching for four people they believe to be responsible.

Roy Morrison would give someone the shirt off of his back. That is how his neighbor describes him.

"If you asked him for something, he would not hesitate to give it to you," said Jennifer Rogers, who rents her home from Morrison.

The landlord, who is in his mid-80s, has several tenants in the Pine Lake community of Arlington.

He was also robbed a few months ago. Rogers worries that her landlord has a bulls eye on his back.

"Everybody knows that he has money and that he's sweet and being that he's older like he is, I guess they see him as vulnerable and that's just sad," she said.

Rogers has two kids and babysits for another. She says they are scared that the suspects could still be in the neighborhood.

"That little girl lives right behind the road from where it happened, so I'm real concerned and want these people caught," explained Rogers.

Morrison is recovering at the hospital, but told investigators that four men knocked on his door and shoved it open when he answered. He was beaten and tied up, then they ransacked his home.

The crooks got away with some cash and left Morrison tied up on the floor. He told police he saw four black men leave in a dark colored car.

"These people need to be off the street, if they can hurt an old man like that, they don't need to be around here, around other people," said Rogers.

Morrison is in stable condition at St. Frances Hospital.

Fayette County deputies ask if anyone has information about the crime, call (901) 465-3456.
