Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze stopped short of calling it a must win against Vanderbilt, but looking at the Rebels schedule, with four of the next six against top 25 ranked teams, it sure seemed like it.
The Rebels were down 21-10 at the half, but battled back after the break to win a tight one, 39-35.
Vanderbilt took the lead late in the fourth as Austyn Carta-Samuels got it to Steven Scheu for the 34 yard touchdown giving the Commodores a 35-32 advantage.
But two plays into the Rebels ensuing drive, Jeff Scott took the handoff the distance, 75 yards, for the go-ahead Rebel score.
Ole Miss would seal the victory with a game ending interception.
The Rebels snap a nine game SEC opener losing streak.
Ole Miss's home opener is next week against SEMO, then it's at Texas, then at Alabama.
