(WMC-TV) - A mother was given a citation for harboring a runaway after a teen was missing for nearly a month.

The teenager's father said his daughter Michelle Maness went to live with her mother a year ago. The couple divorced in 2003. Michelle met a 16-year-old boy in her mother's neighborhood near the Shelby County Penal Farm. Read the first story here

Mike Maness is relieved his daughter is safe after police issued a city watch for an endangered runaway.

"She is in a safe place right now," he said.

The Bartlett High School freshman is being kept in an undisclosed facility for now after police took her to juvenile hall Thursday night. Her father says almost a month ago she got on a school bus and ended up with her boyfriend.

The two ran off together, but the boyfriend came home Sunday. Now his mother has a misdemeanor citation from police for harboring a runaway.

The Action News 5 Investigators talked to the 16-year-old, whose identity we are concealing. Michelle was found hiding in the 16-year-old's bedroom after an Action News 5 report aired about her missing. Police found her after an anonymous call.

The 16-year-old says he does not know where she was the four days he was away from her. The 14-year-old's father has a message.

"All you people that are hiding kids like this, that's bad news for you because these news teams are on the ball buddy. I'm telling you they'll find your children," said Mike.

The mother of the 16-year-old boyfriend said she did not know Michelle was in her house.
