Sewer problem forces woman to rake toilet paper from flower beds

(WMC-TV) - An Atoka resident is tired of dealing with sewage backups in her front yard, her flower beds, and now, inside her house.

Amanda Jacobs lives in the Blaydes Estates subdivision in Atoka. She has been dealing with the sewage problem for more than one year and has been documenting the problem with photos.

"It's beyond terrible. It's horrific," she said.

It was the last straw when Jacobs was forced to rake toilet paper from her flower beds.

After making numerous calls to Atoka town officials, Jacobs is frustrated because she says the city is still not doing anything to help.

"Insurance doesn't really want to cover this because it's not their problem," she said. "This is a city problem."

She continued, "At this point, I can't take anymore because the damage is inside my house and not knowing what I'm going to come home to and find."

Town of Atoka officials say crews were out in April to replace a sewer valve. They say they even ran a new service line.

Jacobs says that did not fix the problems.

"Imagine living in an area where someone would allow this to go on," said Jacobs, who has not been able to shower since Monday because she says her water was cut off.

Jacobs says her most recent sewer backup was Saturday.

Atoka officials say there have been no other sewer problems reported in Jacobs' subdivision. They told Action News 5 that they are working to fix the problem by replacing her sewer pump.

Jacobs says she is in the process of talking to a lawyer to find a more permanent fix to the problems inside and outside her house.
