TIPTON COUNTY, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A woman who lost thousands of dollars after hiring the wrong company to repair the roof on her home is getting some help from another roofer, who promises to do the job right.

Ruby Goodwin contacted Action News 5 Investigators after she hired a roofer in January to make some repairs to her home. Two weeks ago, the work still had not been done.

Goodwin, who retired from the Navy, said the local contractor, Johnny Cryer with Elite Home Works, would not return her calls.

Action News 5's Justin Hanson found a locked door and a "For Rent" sign when he showed up to the business.

Goodwin paid Cryer thousands of dollars for the work, that was supposed to be done by May. Her roof is still not fixed, and she never got the money back.

Now, the sound of a hammer hitting a nail is music to Goodwin's ears.

"When I first drove up, I was in tears," she said. "I couldn't believe this was happening."

The wait for a repaired roof is over.

"I thought it was a lost cause. I thought I was going to have to save up more money to get this done," she added.

Walker Adams, a local roofer, saw Goodwin's story air on Action News 5 two weeks ago. When he saw it, he immediately reached out to help Goodwin.

"Ms. Goodwin served our country and she was taken advantage of and I'm tired of it," said Walker Adams with PGM, Inc.

Adams is doing the work at cost, which means Ruby Goodwin will not be out anymore money.

"It's wonderful to work with great people and people who are still willing to help. They saw my story and heard my cry," said Goodwin.
