Body found in Mississippi River

(WMC-TV) - Several questions are being asked as police investigate the body discovered in the Mississippi river near Harbor Town.

Even though police confirmed the body matches the description of Bone Leang, 37, officials are not yet sure of the identity.

Shane Burton discovered the body while boating with his wife, brother, nephew, and two kids.

"This is very sickening. This is the first time for me to come to the Mississippi River," stated Burton.

Burton saw the body and was able to describe it to Action News 5.

"He was in swimming trunks, no shirt, no shoes, nothing. I'm thinking the guy from Shelby Forest, but I'm not sure," declared Burton.

Burton called 911 just after 2:30 p.m. and waited several hours for someone to show up.

"I could have left a long time ago, but I was trying to do the right thing to give closure to the family," explained Burton.

He and his family are still processing what happened.

"If my boat was not messed up, I would have never seen him because I was going farther. My boat was message up so I was pulling over to fix it," said Burton.

As previously mentioned, police have not officially identified the man found in the river.
