Police investigating homicide

(WMC-TV) - Police are investigating the shooting death of a woman in Memphis.

Although officials are not releasing much information, neighbors confirmed the scene unfolded quickly.

William Jackson was on his way home Sunday night when police cars raced past him.

Police are not saying much about what happened early Sunday evening, except that a woman was shot and killed.

"I saw police rushing up here, so I circled around the block, parked, and began walking around and talking to people about it," stated Jackson.

He said he heard what happened from witnesses.

"I heard that the lady was shot six times in the head," explained Jackson.

As investigators searched the area for clues, crime tape surrounded the corner of LaClede Avenue and South Lauderdale Street.

Police confirm that a woman, who appears to be in her 40s, was shot outside Lauderdale Market.

"It is very close, yeah, it's kinda like in the neighborhood. It's bad, it's very bad," said Jackson.

Meanwhile, Jackson continued to watch from his front porch as he realized friends and family of the woman would soon hear what happened.

"Anytime anybody lose their lives over something there isn't much we can do about it but it just happens. It's awfully tragic," said Jackson.
