(WMC-TV) – The 19-year-old accused of setting a fire at his home is due to be court on Monday. DeWayne Jenkins is charged with arson.

Three family members managed to escape the fire in the 3600 block of Suzanne Drive early Friday morning.

Investigators say a man and woman inside the home on Suzanne woke up to smoke on Friday.

Firefighters first got the woman's younger son out of the house, then went back for her 19-year-old son but couldn't get into his bedroom.

When firefighters went in they didn't find him.

According to the affidavit, Jenkins actually approached officers at a traffic stop later that morning and told them, "I burned it up."

When officers asked him for more information he gave them the address and said his brother, his mom, and her friend were all inside.

Officers arrested Jenkins for arson. He is behind bars Monday morning on a $100,000 bond and is due in court later today.
