(WMC-TV) - Metal detector in tow, Benny Hendrix hunts old coins – like a dime from 1916. But at Jessie Turner Park, it was the metal in plain sight that disappeared.

"That's a downright shame. I mean, you just can't have nice things anymore hardly," said Hendrix.

Aluminum bleacher seats, the pipes to the batting cage, and the copper wiring for the scoreboard were all stolen from the park. The field is still usable, but the amenities are not.

Park goers are asking the thieves stop stealing from the kids who use the park.

Friday morning, police arrested Hilliard Grayson III and charged him with a series of break-ins at the park over the past month.

Police say he did $200 dollars of damage to the bleachers and sold the aluminum for $14. More than $4,000 in damages were made to the scoreboard. Grayson stole the copper for $40, according to police.

He is accused of breaking into the portable storage unit and a concession stand, too, which he allegedly took the Coke and Gatorade supply, $6,000 worth of cleats, and $15,000 worth of baseball bats.

The supplies were from a bunch of little leaguers and high schoolers ages 16 to 19.
