Mid-South organization helping needy

(WMC-TV) - Mid-Southerners are asking how much longer the entitlement programs will stay funded as the shutdown reaches the tenth day.

With the future of certain support programs in question, the burden of helping people in need may fall to food pantries.

Batesville Help and Hope in Arkansas is going out of its way to help those in need. Last week, the organization sent home boxes of food to a record number of people.

"That depresses me because I've been here almost 21 years. We've never been in a shape like this," stated Carolyn Wilson.

The food pantry expects the commodity supply it currently has to last through December.

However, volunteers are warning they may have to give out fewer cans in order to make it last.
