(WMC-TV) - Friends, family, and prosecutors push for justice in the wake of a murdered nurse.

Prosecutors outlined evidence Thursday against two men charged with murdering David Santucci, 27, on South Main Street in August.

His mother, Darlin Fugit, sat just feet in court from the men charged with killing her son.

"I was looking at them and thinking how did you ever get yourselves involved in something like this?" said Fugit.

Suspects shot and killed Santucci during an attempted robbery.

Police charged Mario Patterson and D'ondre Johnson with murder. Also, they charged Jerrica Norfleet with accessory after the fact for driving the getaway car.

Prosecutors say the three were driving around looking for someone to rob and picked Santucci because he looked like an easy target.

Norfleet testified for the state. She says they originally saw an older couple they were going to rob, but there were too many people and cars around. That is when they turned the corner and saw Santucci.

Norfleet said both Patterson and Johnson yelled, "Get him."

Witness Sharae Robertson, who testified during the probable cause hearing, has since been embraced by Santucci's family.

"I rubbed his neck, and let him know I was there," said Robertson.

Judge Loyce Lambert Ryan bound both suspects over to a grand jury for first degree murder.

"Although one person fired the weapon, one person supplied the weapon. They were both in concert," said Lambert.

Fugit feels like justice is being served.

"They're going where they belong, and they're going to be there for a very, very long time," she said.

Santucci just started a new job as a nurse at Methodist Hospital before he was murdered. Find out about the pay-it-forward campaign making its rounds in honor on Santucci here.
