Longest serving GOP member of the House dies at 82

(WMC-TV) - The longest serving Republican in the House of Representatives has died.

Florida Congressman Bill Young died Friday night at Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland.

His chief of staff says the 82-year-old was surrounded by family when he passed away. The cause of death is listed as complications related to a chronic injury.

Young served 22 terms in the House. He was first elected to office in November of 1970, and served under eight presidents during more than a half-century in elected office.
