Hundreds attend JSU homecoming parade

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Well, hard to believe that it's Jackson State University's homecoming weekend, but there was no football game. Despite the disappointment, JSU alumni didn't let Grambling's forfeit spoil their school spirit.

JSU's Sonic Boom and cheerleaders filled the streets of downtown Jackson up with rhythm, good music, lots of dancing and of course tigers big and small.

"JSU is JSU regardless of a game," said JSU alum Tracey Horton.

Horton showed off her school pride even though there wasn't an official homecoming game to prep for.

"It doesn't matter JSU is JSU, we're living the legacy, living the dream and the experience," said Horton.

Other alumni were still proud to represent Jackson State, but a bit shocked that a scrimmage was scheduled for homecoming.

"I'm going to support the Tigers no matter what, it's a disappointment Grambling didn't show, but I'm still going to support my school," said JSU alum Lanassa Moore.

"To not have a homecoming game that's like surreal that's what we look forward to you know for Jackson State and their games that's all we have," said Candice Moore, also an alum of Jackson State.

The youngest ones in the crowd, some who aspire to become future Tigers didn't even have football on their minds. During the parade Jackson student Abreanna said she wants to become a teacher and a lawyer after attending college.

A free concert is scheduled at Veteran's Memorial Stadium after Saturday's scrimmage game.
