(WMC-TV) - Christmas came early Thursday morning for some Mid-South residents. Electrolux teamed up with Neighborhood Christian Center to give away free stoves and microwaves.

Milton Williams was the first in line to pick up a free stove. He described it as the perfect gift because the old stove at his family's house has been broken for months.

"It just don't work at all. It just cracked," said Williams.

The stove at Cynthia Kirby's house is broken, too. She and Williams were among 63 people who received free stoves made by Electrolux.

"Its going to mean a lot because I haven't had a stove in over two months," said Kirby.

Some 200 microwaves were also given away. It was all part of a team effort between Electrolux, which donated the appliances, and the Neighborhood Christian Center, which screened applicants and awarded vouchers based on income.

"We were aiming at people primarily with low incomes, working poor, and that were working class that were on bad times," said Ephie Johnson with the Neighborhood Christian Center.

The scene outside Neighborhood Christian center was awesome as two tractor trailers of appliances were unloaded one by one. For Elextrolux officials this was a chance to say thanks to the community.

"And this is just our way to tell the community that were are happy to be here, and we want to be part of the Memphis family and community here," said George Robbins with Electrolux.

This summer, or possibly Autumn, IKEA says they will launch a smart home hit that will work with products like Google Home, Amazon's Alexa or Apple's HomeKit.  In fact, IKEA says some of their "smart home" products are already on store shelves.  We did some searching and we found that smart bulbs and other items are on shelves at the store here in Memphis.
