80s today rain is coming, raising money Christian Brown, Grizzlies season opener tonight, Shelby County schools update

Good morning and welcome to Action News 5 on a warm Wednesday. It's mid 60s right now....it's going to get up to the low 80s today...wow! but rain is headed our way. Ron Childers is working on a comprehensive forecast that shows you when the rain is coming and when it is leaving our area. He has it all morning long with Weather on the 5s on WMC-TV5.

I have to say I really was honored to talk and spend time with Cpl. Christian Brown. He was injured when he stepped on a IED in Afghanistan. He is in a wheelchair now and is trying to raise money to build a smart home so he can live a more independent life. Gary Sinise and his band is coming to the Cook Convention center to raise money for that home. This morning we have Ben Watson outside the Beale Street police station where a nationally known artist is painting a mural in honor of CB. Watch his live report on Action News 5 this morning.

Tonight the Memphis Grizzlies kicked off the season at San Antonio against the hated Spurs. It's a season that has finally arrived!!! We'll preview the big game on WMC-TV5.

So what's the latest with Shelby County Schools and the forming of municipal districts.

Many parents are asking questions about it.. Superintendent Dorsey Hopson says the district and the school board are continuing to negotiate...the latest on WMC-TV5.

By the end of this week two schools meant to give troubled youth a second chance...will be forced to shut their doors!

The charter schools formed by Former Memphis Mayor Dr. Willie Herenton are closing Friday after a quarter.
