Authorities searching for check thieves suspected of writing over $3k in stolen checks

CAMP COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

The Camp County Sheriff's Department is searching for suspected check thieves who were caught on video writing over $3,000 worth of checks at local stores.

Chief Deputy Randal Lain says between October 15 and 22, two checks were stolen from two different mailboxes in the Leesburg area. The checks were doctored and used at Walmart and Home Depot in Mt. Pleasant.

According to Lain, the suspects, a male and a female, bought saws and tools totaling over $600 at Home Depot. They then went to Walmart, where they purchased $2,700 worth of merchandise, including two televisions.

They pair left in what appeared to be a white 2005-2010 Ford Explorer with black fenders. The right rear tire was a spare.
