Mid-South residents receive free flu shots

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - Dozens of Mid-South residents are now protected from this year's flu after getting a free flu shot outside a local library.

Free flu shots were given to people 18-years-old and older Saturday at the Benjamin Hook Library.

Organizers said it started off busy, but did slow down as the day progressed.

Senior Public Relations Coordinator from Baptist Memorial, Valerie Burrow, believes it is one of the best ways to help protect against the flu.

"It's extremely important, from what I've read. The flu shot is about 70 to 90 percent effective in combating the flu. It is the best single way to combat the flu," explained Burrow.

The shots were provided by the Baptist Memorial Hospital.
