Jakaitis Named ECHL Goaltender of the Month

The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Jeff Jakaitis has been named the Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Month for October.

The monthly award is Jakaitis' third of his ECHL career, which is tied for the most in League history. The Rochester, Minnesota, native went 4-0-1 in five appearances in October with a 1.58 goals-against average and a save percentage of .938 and holds an overall record of 6-0-1 in seven appearances, leading the ECHL in wins and ranking eighth in both goals-against average (1.70) and save percentage (.937). 

Jakaitis, 30, began the season by earning ECHL Goaltender of the Week honors after stopping 26 of 28 shots in a 3-2 shootout loss at Reading on Oct. 19 and then making 25 saves in a 3-2 victory against the Royals on Oct. 20. He made 24 saves in a 2-1 win at Greenville on Oct. 25, stopped 21 shots in a 4-1 victory over the Road Warriors on Oct. 26 and ended the month with 22 saves in a 4-2 win against Orlando on Oct. 29. 

The 5-foot-10, 165-pound goaltender has appeared in 133 career ECHL games with South Carolina, Gwinnett, Charlotte and Columbia posting an overall record of 66-41-20 with 13 shutouts, a 2.54 goals-against average and a save percentage of .921. Jakaitis was the 2012 ECHL Goaltender of the Year while with Gwinnett, and tied the ECHL record with three consecutive shutouts from Dec. 17-28, 2011. 

Jakaitis has also posted a 5-3-1 record in 10 career American Hockey League games with Portland and Worcester. 

The Stingrays close a two-game road trip on Thursday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m. against the Greenville Road Warriors at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina and return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday, November 8 against the Evansville IceMen at 7:05 p.m.
