Police arrest two teen suspects after man critically shot

(WMC-TV) - Police had their guns drawn as they cornered two teenage suspects possibly responsible for shooting a man in the chest in Frayser Monday morning.

The takedown unfolded as Action News 5 cameras rolled.

"It's senseless, man," said resident Cedric Thomas. "For one, they should be in school. If they're already out of school, they should be looking for something to better their lives with."

Both suspects arrested fit witness descriptions of the people who ran from the crime scene a few hundred yards away

Memphis police were called to 3293 Ashland Streets about shots fired and a man down.

"Officers made the scene, located a male victim that had been shot in the torso," said Memphis Police Department Major Mike Shearin.

Jerry Bemley lives nearby. He says his son is close friends with the man who was shot. Bemley identifies the man as Ladarius Townsend.

Ambulances rushed him to the hospital in extremely critical condition.

"I hope that he's ... that he's alright," said Bemley.

If he lives, the two teens could face attempted murder charges. People in the area say the teens are 16 years old.

MPD says investigators are still trying to confirm their ages and figure out what precipitated this shooting.
