Tigers football team not satisfied with ugly win

(WMC-TV) – Usually when you see an FCS team on the schedule, you circle that as an easy win right?

Nothing has been easy for the Memphis Tigers this year, especially not a game against a UT-Martin team that actually beat Memphis last season.

After trailing for most of the first half to UT-Martin, Memphis needed something to go right and freshman quarterback Paxton Lynch stepped up.

"Those are times you really need someone to make a play," said Memphis Head Coach Justin Fuente. "We had sprint-out called into a blitz, and we picked it up and he just kinda put his brakes on, ran around back and got in the end zone."

From there the defense shut down the skyhawks, and the offense was able to utilize playmakers like ture freshman wide receiver Sam Craft, which opened up the run game and helped the Tigers close out their second win of the year.

"You find yourself saying okay, let's think about players not plays; let's think about how to get 11 the ball," said Fuente.

"I had a feeling that I would start to get involved with the offense more and more," said Craft.

Craft had 97 total yards (3 catches for 83 yards, 2 carries for 14 yards) and his third rushing touchdown on the season.

But Memphis wasn't satisfied with the way they won.

"I told our squad I'm not in the praising mood after that," said Fuente. "I'm happy for them that they won, I'm happy that we won, but in no way am I ready to jump up and down and pat them on the back and tell them what a great job they did."

The Tigers are going to need to win all 4 remaining games to get to a bowl game, and it's going to take more complete performances than the one on Saturday to get there.
