Memphis doctor nationally recognized for pediatric care

(WMC-TV)- Founder and medical director Dr. William Novick of the International Children's Heart Foundation has received national recognition for his work in pediatric care.

Dr. Novick is a 2013 REAL Awards honoree in the pediatric care category.

The REAL Awards honor healthcare workers in the U.S. and around the world, and recognizes the life saving work that they perform every day.

This national honor is sponsored by companies and organizations nationwide including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Time Magazine.

Dr. Novick is dedicated to improving the care of children with congenital heart defects in destitute countries.

Since 1993, more than 6,000 children in 30 different countries have received surgical care and thousands of other children have benefited from the education and training provided to the in-country medical staff during these humanitarian trips.

Dr. Novick was featured in the 2003 Oscar-winning documentary Chernobyl Heart.

ICHF wishes to congratulate all the distinguished nominees and honorees in each of the categories for the Real Awards.

A presentation ceremony will be held in Washington, D.C. this April.

Dr. Novick hopes this will help raise awareness for congenital heart disease and for all the frontline healthcare workers across the globe.
