Police double security after near thefts

(WMC-TV) - Thousands are swarming to the new outlet shopping center in Pearl, Mississippi.

While the Outlets of Mississippi have only been open a few days, shoppers keep pouring through the doors.

Yet, two near shoplifting incidents have police beefing up patrols.

While the suspects did not make it out the door with the stolen merchandise, the incidents do remind shoppers to be vigilant at all times during the holiday season.

Pearl police hosted a special meeting with store managers about shoplifting, providing hints on what to look for.

"People just need to watch their purses and stuff because if you leave your purse unattended anybody can walk up and take anything out of it. Watch your merchandise make sure that you keep it in your hands at all time. Don't set it down somewhere and walk off," warned the Pearl Police Department Chief, Ben Schuler.

In the past three days since the mall opened, over 60,000 people have shopped there.
