MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is warning drivers Monday after a woman was pulled over and assaulted by a man who they believe was posing as a law enforcement officer.

The victim was driving in rural Shelby County around 9 p.m. last Thursday when she was pulled over by a four-door Sedan with a blue light. A white man approached her vehicle and told her to get out.

She was reportedly "fondled by the male suspect prior to being forced to the ground." He then ransacked her car and took several items from inside.

SCSO is cautioning drivers to be vigilant and if you see someone suspiciously following you, pull into the nearest fire station of well-lit area to call the sheriff's office. The non-emergency number is 901-379-7625.

"If it's not a marked car, in particular, or you feel something's not right ... Check it out," said SCSO spokesperson Chip Washington.

The suspect was about 5 feet 7 inches tall, and clean shaven with a short, dark, buzzed hair cut. He was wearing slacks and a button down shirt.
