BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A Baton Rouge man was arrested Monday at his home and charged with second degree murder and second degree cruelty to a juvenile in the death of his 6-month-old son Aiden King.

Aiden died November 6, 2013.

According to Baton Rouge Police, on May 31, 2013, while in the care of his father 23-year-old Curtis King, the child suffered second and third degree burns on more than 80 percent of his body, after being placed in hot bath water.

Aiden was taken to a children's hospital in Galveston, TX where he was treated for his extensive burns and other injuries that were discovered during his care at the hospital.

Detectives went to Galveston to continue their investigation, but were unable to determine probable cause for an arrest at that time. After the child recovered, Aiden was released back to the care of his parents. The Baton Rouge Police Department says they were not informed that the child was being placed back at home.

On October 29, 2013, Baton Rouge Police were called to house again because Aiden was found unresponsive again while in the care of his father and another relative.

According to BRPD, King said he had left the child unattended on an adult size bed while he was in another room separating marijuana to sell. King later fell asleep on the bed next to the child and stated that when woke up he found the child unresponsive.

Aiden was taken to a local hospital where he remained on life support until November 6, 2013.

Detectives determined that the child suffered injuries that were consistent with abuse and neglect which ultimately led to the death of Aiden King.

The Department of Child and Family Services released a statement Monday night about the death of Aiden King that reads:

"DCFS is currently working with authorities to investigate the death of Aiden King. At the time of the October 29th incident that resulted in Aiden's death, DCFS did not have an open case with the family. Earlier this summer, Aiden was admitted to the hospital for burns to his body after being left unattended in a tub of water. Through its investigation, DCFS did not receive any evidence or medical reports that indicated additional safety or abuse risks were present, and the case was closed on August 2nd. At the time of the case closure, the child was still under the care of a physician from Shriner's Hospital in Galveston. Aiden did not enter DCFS custody."
