HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

The director of the Department of Marine Resources today announced a new "ethics hotline" and online reporting system. Director Jamie Miller said it will allow DMR employees to anonymously report and instances of suspected fraud or wrongdoing within the department.

The move comes in the wake of public fraud allegations and criminal charges against the former DMR director and several former employees. Director Miller says the new ethics reporting program is a good investment.

A large crowd showed up for the group's first ever meeting in Hancock County. It's an appropriate location as the commission welcomed its newest member, Ernie Zimmerman of Waveland.

Zimmerman was sworn in this morning to replace Dr. Vernon Asper who stepped down from the board earlier this year. Commissioner Zimmerman represents environmental interests on the board.
