Southaven mayor expected to request $1 million from MDOT

(WMC-TV) – The city of Southaven may be ridding itself of problems caused by the investigation into former mayor Greg Davis.

Last year, nearly $1 million in grant funds for a new bike path were frozen by the Mississippi Department of Transportation after state auditor Stacey Pickering began his investigation into Davis' spending of city money.

At Tuesday night's Board of Aldermen meeting, new mayor Darren Musselwhite is expected to sign a request for MDOT to activate and release funds for the project.

North Mississippi MDOT Commissioner Mike Tagert previously told Action News 5 that the state auditor's office informed MDOT that the money could be released to the city.

Action News 5's Michael Clark is working to learn more about what is next for the project and how it will improve things for people in Southaven.
