Grandparents fall victim to woman who showed up at their door

Terri Peacock is locked up at 201 on $5,000 bond. Terri Peacock is locked up at 201 on $5,000 bond.

(WMC-TV) – The accusations make for a lowdown dirty shame. One family hopes no one else falls for it or anything like it.

Lesley Loeffel has never met Terri Peacock, and it may be best it stay that way.

"They wanna put me in a holding cell with her for five minutes, that's all it would take," said Loeffel.

Loeffel's grandparents are in their 90s. They've lived on Maria Street for six decades without a problem, until police say Peacock talked her way into their home.

According to the affidavit of complaint, she "asked for money because her child had died and she needed money for flowers for the funeral."

Police say Loeffel's grandparents gave her some money and she stole the grandmother's purse. Four days later, Peacock reportedly called and told them they could get their stuff back for $145.

"That's...that's not human. That's not right," said Loeffel.

Loeffel and her grandparents agreed to meet Peacock with the money at Leawood Baptist Church. They brought the police with them.

Peacock was arrested, reportedly holding bags of other people's IDs, credit cards, and checkbooks, too.

Loeffel wants everyone to beware in order to avoid falling victim like her grandparents did.

"They're used to people coming in and out of your house from the olden days, you know, having good friendship," said Loeffel. "They didn't realize that a person at your front door can be your worst enemy."

Peacock is locked up at 201 on $5,000 bond. No one answered at her listed address.
