3 teens accused of robbing 75-year-old man at gunpoint, eluding police

(WMC-TV) - Three people are in custody following a police chase that topped speeds of 100 miles per hour Friday.

Three teenagers are accused of carjacking a 75-year-old man at gunpoint, stealing his money, keys, and his car, then leading police on a high-speed chase through two counties.

"For this to happen right across the street from me, I'm really shocked," said Kimberly Yarbrough, who lives in Clarksdale, where the chase began. It ended 40 miles away in Tunica County.

"It reached speeds over 100 miles at some point on [Highway] 61," said Robbie Linley, Clarksdale Police Department.

Clarksdale police officers chased the stolen car before giving way to Coahoma County and Tunica County investigators. The teenagers inside eventually crashed and were arrested.

"They could have very easily ended up hurt and him, all for a car," said Yarbrough.

A few hours before the 75-year-old man was robbed, a woman was robbed just three blocks away. Police believe the incidents could be related.

"When she arrived home, she was approached as she got out of her vehicle," said Linley. "Similar situations."

"The majority of these people that stay on this street, everyone works," explained Yarbrough. "There's a nurse practitioner, two doctors, a man that owns a business. Everyone here are good standing citizens."

Nobody was hurt in the crime spree. Clarksdale police officers say the teens will likely be charged as adults for the armed robbery.
