Mid-South church celebrates years of service

(WMC-TV) - On any given Sunday, you will see plenty of praise and worship at St. Mark Ministries Church of God in Christ.

This devotion to faith and worship is the legacy of the congregation's founder, Bishop C.G. Watson. She founded the church 40-years-ago deep in Memphis' inner city.

Her son, Elder Michael Glover, is the church's pastor now.

"She was a pioneer as a woman in the ministry because...back in the 40's, that was unheard-of," said Glover.

Glover said his mother also broke down barriers in broadcasting. Before she died in 1989, she hosted a gospel radio show for 46 years while raising 10 children.

"Out of the 10 children, 5 of them were ministers," continued Glover.

On the congregation's 40th anniversary, members spoke about their founder's vision to serve the inner city and people in need.

"Like I say, we have in place after school programs for children, a refuge for any and everybody who wants to be saved, and come in and receive the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ," declared Glover.

The church began in a converted house where members worshiped for 34 years. But, in 2007, the church built a new building right across the street. They have been worshiping there ever since.

"Bishop C.G. Watson gave us a good start. But, it's Jesus Christ that makes the difference," finished Glover.
