MY TURN: Holidays are a time to help our neighbors

(WMC-TV) - We hope you and your family are having a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.  The time we spend with family and friends at Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks for all of our blessings, but not everyone in the Mid-South is so fortunate.

Many of our neighbors struggle to obtain one of the most basic human needs – food.

Almost 30 percent of the children who live in the Memphis metropolitan area are living in poverty. Fortunately, the holiday season offers many wonderful opportunities to help our neighbors, and that includes the 7th annual Action News 5 Holiday Food Drive. The Food Drive will benefit the Mid-South Food Bank which serves dozens of charities throughout our region.

The big day for us is Wednesday, December 4. On that day, the team from Action News 5 and other volunteers will be stationed with our live cameras at drop off locations throughout the Mid-South.

Please bring your non-perishable food items or a cash donation to one of these drop-off sites and we'll be waiting there to meet you. You won't even have to get out of your car. Again, the Action News 5 Holiday Food Drive will be Wednesday, December 4 from 5:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
