Mid-South stores open early, give consumers more shopping time

(WMC-TV) – If you were driving around Memphis or the Mid-South late Thanksgiving night, you have spotted the link at your local retailer.

It appears Black Friday is going through a transitional period. The shoppers were still out but with stores opening earlier, some Thursday morning, the shoppers have more time to get their hands on the goods.

Shopper Lakeshia Miller said, "This is my first time and yes it has been worth it. It really has been an experience."

Not only did opening early help prevent overcrowded stores on Black Friday morning, but it also caused some shoppers to go without sleep. Chandler Snipes started shopping Thursday evening.

"I've not been to bed since I mean when I woke up it was yesterday morning at 5 a.m." Snipes said.

When we met Snipes his shopping buddies were out napping in the car. He was still going strong, but why?

"It all honesty it's just for the people watching. I love the craziness that ensues when they get the deals," Snipes told Action News 5.

It may look quiet now, but Thursday night when this Target opened, those infamous black Friday lines were stretched around the store.

Miller said, "When I got here the line was wrapped all the way around the building. There were people standing in the front waiting for the line to die down. It was crazy."

Thanks to standing in the line Miller scored a pair of black boots and an X-Box KINECT.

For another shopper all the deals are coming as a 21st birthday gift. She decided to spend her birthday with thousands of strangers shopping across the Mid-South.

Meghan Brees said, "It's great to be shopping on my 21st birthday. We got up this morning because we wanted to go to Build-A-Bear because they have limited edition sock monkeys."
