E-cigarette shop claims to help traditional smokers quit

(WMC-TV) - A new trend meant to stop smoking has arrived in Southaven. It is an e-cigarette shop.

"I smoked for 40 years. I knew I needed to do something to cut back and fortunately it's working," said customer Bill Shankman.

Shankman bought his first e-cigarette at Mid-South Vapors in Southaven, which is the first electronic cigarette store to open in that city.

"We've had a lot of customers," said Chance Leigh, who is the son of the owner of MidSouth Vapors.

He says his father opened the store as a business of course but also as a way for people to quite smoking regular cigarettes. Leigh started smoking at 13. At 19, he is using e-cigarettes to quit.

Smoking an electronic cigarette is called vaping.

"This has nicotine in it. You can get different percentages of nicotine," said Leigh.

A starter e-cigarette costs $49.95. That is the price of a carton of cigarettes, and it can last two years or more.

Leigh says he has heard a lot of stories from customers who have tried to quit smoking traditional cigarettes.

"They've tried just about everything and nothing worked. They come in here and try it. Nine times out of 10 it works for them," said Leigh.

Something else customers like is the different flavors, which vary from cheese cake to key lime pie.
