(WMC-TV) - Hotels: A great plan B in the event of lost power in a winter storm. But there is one problem, many in Memphis are booked this weekend.

A lot of runners in the St. Jude Memphis Marathon are making their way downtown early because of the threat of bad weather.

"I called down with the weather the other day and got a room for tonight. The room I have tomorrow night, I called January 13," said David White from Paducah, Kentucky.

White and plenty of other runners booked their room for Friday months and months in advance.

Hadyn Huckabee and his family came to Memphis a day early as well.

"I was aware of the weather and tried to watch forecasts and updates," said Huckabee.

Hotels Action News 5 called in the downtown area are either all booked or close to it. Some are booked through Saturday. It is the marathon that brought all of the visitors. Some people took off for Memphis Thursday running from weather in their city.

"Got a room tonight because of bad weather in western Kentucky. We wanted to make sure we didn't get snowed or iced in," said Allen Paul, who is also from Paducah.

Joy Mayanja is just trying to get out of town Friday.

"I'm concerned about the weather. I mean driving sleet on the roads," she said.

It all means if Memphians lose power it likely will be tough to find a hotel room to stay in.
